More than sixty people gathered for the annual conference of the British Palestine Friendship and Twinning Network in Kennington on 29 February. Participants came from Dundee, North Wales, Oxford, Sheffield, London and beyond to share on their work and projects over the past year. This included successes in gaining formal town twinning status, cultural exchanges, meetings, exhibitions and engagement with political representatives. During the morning session Avi Shlaim, Emeritus Professor of International Relations St Anthony’s College, Oxford reflected on ‘Zionist settler colonialism and Palestinian Resistance’.
Almara Bettum and Shahd Hammouri
Alamara Kwaja Bettum and Shahd Hammouri Lawyers for Palestinian Human Rights, offered insights into ‘Israeli expansion and International Law’ and Dr Husam Zomlot – Ambassador and Head of Palestine Mission in the UK stressed the importance of work by civil society groups, such as the Network, in effecting change and building grassroots solidarity.
