A Great Day in Cleaver Square

As the sun shone on Cleaver Square the Kennington Bethlehem Link held our first public event of the year on Saturday, 17th April.

After a long winter of lockdown the square was at its beautiful best. A live band played along as people mingled around our ‘Bakes for Bethlehem’ stall.

Members and friends of the group had been cooking feverishly throughout the week and brought cakes, loaves, preserves and and Palestinian produce to our tables on the square.

We managed to make £724.94 for the ‘House of Bread’ project, which aims to give training and employment opportunities to vulnerable women in Bethlehem and the West Bank.

Rami Khader, the founder of the project was delighted with the effort, saying “This brings so much happiness to my heart. Thank you to my dear friends in Kennington.”

Many thanks to everyone who organised and supported ‘Bakes for Bethlehem’, especially Ursula who came up with the idea, lead the organisation and served at the stall all day.
