Kennington Tandoori helps NHS

London may be in lockdown but that hasn’t stopped our local Indian restaurant from feeding the neighbourhood.

While Kennington Tandoori are running a delivery service, so locals can get their usual KT fix at home, they are also sending free meals to staff at St Thomas’ Hospital and to key workers in Kennington.

KT owner, Kowsar Hoque explained, “We are providing 60 meals to the Intensive Treatment Unit and to Accident & Emergency every Monday and Wednesday. And we are also giving 100 meals every Friday to key workers in Kennington and their families.”

Kowsar, a founder member of the Kennington Bethlehem Link, added, “We, as a community, have come together to help each other get through this.”

The meals are taken to St Thomas’ by Tristan Standish and his son Jordan.

At the hospital head chaplain, Reverend Mia Hilborn distributes the meals to the right departments. Even Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby has made the journey from Lambeth Palace to lend support and a helping hand.

On Fridays 100 meals are distributed to Kennington’s key workers and their families. Reverend Angus Aagaard of St Anselm’s distributes the food packages from the church.

The dishes themselves are vegetarian curries that change weekly. Old KT favourites like south Indian vegetable stew. All dishes are vegan, nut free and fulfil halal and kosher requirements.
