Love was certainly in the air in Kennington, Bethlehem and beyond on Saturday, 13th of February.
Over 100 romantically-inspired contestants connected to our zoom quiz, which was expertly administered by Steve Mitchell. We received positive comments and thanks from many who took part, but the best news is that we have now raised over £2000 for Aida Refugee Camp. This will allow the Aida Emergency Cell Response to Covid-19 to start distributing the much-needed food parcels to people living in Aida.
While people joined us from Kennington and all over London, this was a truly international quiz with households from France, Italy and Palestine. It was good to see Anas Abu Srour, who introduced the Aida Youth Center with a short talk about their work and an update on the damaging effects that Covid has had on life in Aida Camp.
The top prize of the night was won by ‘Our Friends from the North’ who accurately amassed 65 points, closely followed by ‘The Kennington Variant’ on 64. The winners had their choice of two wonderful prizes: a hamper of goods from Palestine and local Kennington products was assembled by Pat Gaffney and Sunday lunch at the Black Prince, generously donated by Mark Allan. Many thanks to Mark and Pat.
Thanks especially to everyone who donated, participated and organised another successful event from the Kennington Bethlehem Link.
We are also happy to report a romantic postscript to the quiz. The team from Italy, ‘Dolce Vita’ were engaged on Valentine’s Day. Who knows? Did the quiz set the mood for a proposal? Congratulations Ben and Viola!
