AIDA SUMMER CAMP

These are challenging times in Aida Camp, to say the least. So it was great to see the smiles on the children’s faces as they recently enjoyed a summer camp.

One hundred children, aged 6 to 11, were able to take part in the activities that were run by 13 volunteers, 5 teachers and a social worker. The event was supported by the funds that the Kennington Bethlehem Link raised on our recent sponsored walk. Normal kids doing things that children in Kennington take for granted, but weeks like this take a little more organising in Aida Camp.

The volunteers and teachers put on a range of activities for the kids giving them a creative, sporting and educational experience. The children got creative, using natural materials like, leaves and salt in their artwork. And in a handicraft workshop they made pieces that will decorate the Aida Youth Center.

They tried their hand at a theatrical performance, with a sketch based on a Palestinian song. It all finished with final exhibition that brought together all the kid’s creative efforts.

And of course there was that trip to the swimming pool.
